Patrick Ewing is a retired Jamaican-American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 17 seasons. He was born on August 5, 1962, in Kingston, Jamaica, and moved to the United States as a child.
Ewing played college basketball at Georgetown University, where he became one of the most dominant players in the history of the sport. He was a three-time All-American and led Georgetown to three Final Four appearances and one NCAA Championship Game.
In the NBA, Ewing was drafted as the first overall pick by the New York Knicks in 1985. He played for the Knicks for 15 seasons and was named to the NBA All-Star team 11 times. He also played for the Seattle SuperSonics and the Orlando Magic before retiring in 2002.
Ewing is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was a dominant force on both ends of the court, known for his scoring ability, rebounding, and shot-blocking. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
After retiring from playing, Ewing worked as an assistant coach for several NBA teams, including the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, and Charlotte Hornets. In 2017, he was named the head coach of his alma mater, Georgetown University, where he still coaches today.
