Subway crime across the five boroughs has decreased this year, coinciding with a $150 million increase in police overtime for transit system patrols. Despite the 2% decline in reported felony crimes from 2022, with 2,194 incidents this year compared to 2,245, some New Yorkers still express apprehension about using the subway. Specific crime categories also exhibited notable reductions, with murders decreasing from 10 to five, rapes declining from 11 to four, robberies dropping from 582 to 521, and grand larcenies remaining steady at 1,096, as per the latest NYPD data updated on Sunday, Dec. 17.
